| CAOS TYPE by Àlex Trochut | ||
| Caos alphabet | This project is the result of a reflection over the incommunication. It forms it self through graphic elements taken from the urban context, that have been converted in about 60 MB of graphic material, with wich is posible to make diferent applications. The project arise from the personal need of expresing the sensation of mess and chaos in front of everything that surround us, mentioning the fact that we are alone and isolated, and that our connection with other people are made from our own predisposition, like a projection on the other, and not from a "real connection". From my point of view, our enviroment is a mirror of multiple forms. Everything referring to live fractalizes; from every new vision separates infinity more than generates unlimited more divisions. In this internal/external confusion is imposible to stablish any simultanead coordination between the people, wich in a higher or lower mesure, are descoordinated and incommunicated, being the incoherence the only permanent valor. From this sensation of continuos desorientation, I choose to make a typeface for talking about incommunication, characters are the lenguage's vehicle and is trought this with wich we stablish the communication between each other. But this seems to be contradictious, the words are not able to cover all the reality, we never reach the 100% effective communication, everything is full ambiguities that we never find out. So, being the words something that doesn't alow us to be totally communicated, I though it would be coherent to make a typeface for expressing the incommunication, formed by a condensed group of forms and layers difficulting a fluid lecture in order to represent in a visual way the idea of incommunication between individuals, being the word the image of what I want to express: incommunication -understand it as a noise generated by the overlaying of information (internal and external); as Raquel Pelta says when she refers to the practice application of the deconstrcution theory of Derrida in the path of the graphic design: «the image can be readed and the writen word can be seen» One of the characteristics of this typography, is because of its complexity and size of the files, it's no possible to convert it to a convetional font file, to be introduced directly by keyboard. The typeface has not a closed form nor unique structure. The words can be composed like a character puzzle, chasing the pieces as the designer considers. By the same rule, characters can by ungrouped as a group of pieces. In my case I deal with the shape of the letters trying to form them in more anarchic and unformed way I could; I looked for the accident in the result, inducing to think that the form of the letter is more the result of and error or a casuality than a calculated piece tryied to be created under a cannon relation; maybe for somebody I can have another appeareance. For this reason this is an open project that is gived in a vector format, to alow anyone to use it, modify it, transform it, mix it... Difusing the alphabet as changing pieces I pretend to generate a chain of free distribution that reach to be a collective project with participants around the world, for finally gather all the material used and publish it. This distribution wants to be submitted to a random process, in order to remark the random that is present in this project. I think is important to let the "random" be in the process of creation, it has a powerful creative pontential that is not possible to get from the rationality and a calculate process, for this reason I decided to make a random application. Our relations operate through fiction connections, made from our self to what we have in front of, over who we screen the image of what we want to see, working as reflections of our self; the same happens with the forms chaoticly produced by this random, every one see different things, that generate new start points that, without the computer, we wouldn't not be able to realise, amplifying our possibilities, again, to chaos and infinity. What I try to explain with this work, mostly in the random, is that is possible to care about a major number of formal possibilities through chaotic-growing structures to generate new forms, in this case through antennas, but this is totally random, because is totally applicable to clouds, stones, turbercles, etc... Somehow we work randomly, our brain works under some parameters of probabilities not too open (we do more or less what is expected) but if we look closer this possibilities can be divided until infinity. The random permits us to observe the mess and a huge succession of alternatives under the same focus, and it's possible to transmit it into forms and compositions. The random would represent the incommunication referring to a neverending possibilities to take care about infront of the same situation, making evidence that results nearly impossible that it repeats twice, by the same rule is I think not possible to repeat two thoughs between people. Finally I'd like to write down a sentence of Tsuyoshi Kusano (Graphic Designer): «When you argue something, it restings you, limiting the extension of the image, reducing the way of expressing it». I'd like to thank specially: Andreu Balius, Marta Cerdà, my Family, Dani Navarro, Raquel Pelta, Natalia Rojas, & Toormix. trochut@yahoo.com |
